Welcome to Car-Free Pittsburgh!
Our Mission is to reclaim Pittsburgh’s streets from the automobile, and to advocate for bicycling, walking and public transit as sustainable transportation alternatives.
Responsible Consumption is the key to ensuring that resources are available for tomorrow. Every day on the news, you hear complaints about gas prices. Some point fingers at the oil companies. Others blame the government. If we want to know who is really to blame for the high price of gasoline, we need to look in the mirror.
We are the reason gas is $4 a gallon. We control prices through the choice we make every day. The more we use, the higher the price. Supply and demand dictate the market price of anything. Only when we curb our usage will prices recede.
We can make a difference. We can all make decisions that reduce our dependence on the automobile. Walk. Bike. Mass transit. Car share programs. We can clear our congested, polluted roadways one car at a time. Just one light rail vehicle can take 125 cars off of Pittsburgh’s clogged parkways.
One less car. Its a big step in the right direction. Car-Free Pittsburgh provides you with the information and tools you need to break free of the American automobile addiction. One less car starts with you.
